Seriously, Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, and Neil Gaiman would have been proud to create comics as witty and original as Enigma, Skreemer, or Rogan Gosh!įrom a thematic perspective, Peter Milligan is actually quite reliable, as practically all of his books are about identity crises in one way or another – sexual identity, national identity, religious identity, etc. ![]() ![]() After all, when he’s on fire he can deliver densely multilayered, mind-blowing masterpieces that stand side by side with those of other acclaimed authors of the early British invasion. The synopsis and the adorable illustrations made me think this might be a pretty tame story (and overall it certainly is!) but if you have sensitive children do be aware that a few of the main characters have lost family members in tragic circumstances (in the past, and off page) and and that the wolves are the "bad guys" here (again!? sigh. ![]() You see, the story follows mostly the small creatures of the forest and, as such, many either live in fear of the carnivores or have already had frightening encounters with them. ![]() Dare I say, cuddly? Raggedy Ann and the Kite: The neighborhood boys can't get their kite to stay in the air, so Marcella suggests attaching Raggedy Ann as a tail. Raggedy Ann and the Washing: Marcella accidentally drops Raggedy Ann into the washing, and Dinah doesn't discover the doll until she's emerged on the other side, flattened. When Marcella returns, she discovers they're sticky, so she washes them and hangs them to dry before giving them dinner and putting them to bed. We Need to Talk About Kevin is about fictional school shooting around the same time as the Columbine High School massacre. I read We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (a female author) recently, and even though I thoroughly enjoyed it, I can certainly see all three sides of this debate. Others might not like it, or they may have a hard time reading it.
